On some days, happiness begins with the simplest things. Sometimes, a single bowl of kway chap is enough to warm someone’s heart. When the Chawla Charity Foundation had the opportunity to share a heartfelt lunch with the children at the Northern Region Center for the Intellectually Disabled in Chiang Mai, the sense of fulfillment extended far beyond the dining table. It could be felt in the children’s bright eyes, genuine smiles, and joyful laughter as all 31 of them welcomed us with pure sincerity, instantly making the world feel a little gentler. A humble meal of Vietnamese-style kway chap, freshly baked treats, and cartons of milk became a quiet expression of care and compassion we wished to share. And on that day, we were reminded that true happiness is not measured by the size of what we give, but by the love and intention woven into every small act of kindness.
The Northern Region Center for the Intellectually Disabled in Chiang Mai is a place of hope, dedicated to caring for and nurturing the potential of children and individuals with intellectual disabilities, allowing each of them to grow beautifully in their own unique way. More than a care facility, it serves as a ‘second home’ filled with love, understanding, and unwavering support from compassionate staff who work wholeheartedly. Through their dedication, every child is encouraged to discover their own abilities and to live a life enriched with dignity, confidence, and happiness.
On Saturday, November 15, 2025, the team from the Chawla Charity Foundation visited the Northern Region Center for the Intellectually Disabled in Chiang Mai to share a delicious lunch with all 31 children. The atmosphere that day was filled with warmth and heartfelt simplicity from the very first step inside. Many of the children greeted the team with gentle smiles and quiet excitement that instantly warmed our hearts. Hot bowls of Vietnamese-style kway chap, freshly baked treats, delightful cookies, and cartons of milk were lovingly prepared and shared. Each time a meal was placed on the table, the children’s sparkling eyes and radiant smiles turned the day into a truly beautiful and meaningful moment for everyone involved.

We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to all the staff members who stand beside the children every single day with strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication. Their commitment plays a vital role in ensuring that each child here is given the opportunity to learn, grow, and develop according to their own unique potential. Caring for children with special needs is never an easy task, yet their work continually reminds us that love and understanding have the power to transform even ordinary days into moments filled with hope.
For the Chawla Charity Foundation, this lunch activity was not merely a ‘one-day mission,’ but a meaningful step along an ongoing journey of giving that we are committed to continuing with care and consistency. We believe that every child deserves equal opportunities, the warmth of genuine kindness, and the chance to grow in an environment filled with love and understanding. Even a single shared meal can help a child feel seen, valued, and deeply cared for.
The Chawla Charity Foundation will continue to carry hope and smiles to many more communities, guided by the belief that even the smallest acts of compassion have the power to change someone’s life. Whether through gentle words, the gift of time, or the sharing of a simple meal, these moments of kindness can come together to create a truly meaningful impact. Because in the end, a gentle and caring heart is the most beautiful gift we can ever share with one another.
