From Nourishing Meals to Restful Sleep: Chawla Charity Foundation Celebrates the Opening of a New Canteen and Enhances Well-being for the Foundation for the Welfare of the Mentally Retarded of Thailand under the Royal Patronage, Chiang Mai

True dedication to driving society forward does not end with financial support, but involves standing alongside and witnessing tangible success together. In May 2026, the Chawla Charity Foundation donated 100,000 Baht to contribute to the construction and extension of a new canteen building at the Foundation for the Welfare of the Mentally Retarded of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of Her Majesty the Queen, Chiang Mai Province (Northern Welfare Center for Mentally Retarded Persons). This initiative aimed to elevate well-being and accommodate the rehabilitation activities of the children. Following the completion of the building, a large set of high-quality kitchenware and bedding was subsequently delivered.

Joining the Grand Meritmaking Ceremony to Open the New Canteen and Welcome Smiles

The latest progress on Friday, 26 June 2026, marked a day of great joy as Ms. Kanthana Khongsangchu, along with the team from the Chawla Charity Foundation, attended the meritmaking ceremony for the newly extended dining room to bring auspiciousness, following an invitation from Mrs. Panomwan Boonruang, the President of the Center.

The atmosphere within the event was filled with happiness and profound emotion. It commenced with a Buddhist ceremony where monks chanted prayers, followed by the offering of midday food and traditional offerings (Paccaya Thaitham) to 5 monks. Attendees also watched cultural performances meticulously rehearsed by the children at the center, including the ‘Fon Khan Dok’ (flower basket dance) and a delightful dance accompanied by music.

Full Stomachs and Joyful Hearts: Hosting Lunch and Providing Tangible Equipment

On this special occasion, the Chawla Charity Foundation co-hosted a lunch to celebrate the new dining room, preparing and delivering over 100 boxes of delicious and hygienic meals directly to the children and staff (with a menu featuring stewed pork leg on rice and fresh shrimp Pad Thai). Furthermore, additional kitchenware and dining utensils were delivered to provide convenience and ensure long-term utility for the center. This support will assist in the care and rehabilitation of 48 individuals with intellectual disabilities, aged between 6 and 32 years, who are under the care of this branch of the Foundation for the Welfare of the Mentally Retarded of Thailand in Chiang Mai Province (Nong Phueng Sub-district, Saraphi District).

From Full Stomachs to Physical Comfort: Delivering Quality Bedding to Enhance Healthy Sleep

Because we believe that once they have a fully completed canteen to replenish their physical energy during the day, “quality rest at night” is equally vital and should not be overlooked. Through monitoring results and surveying the living conditions of the children, the Chawla Charity Foundation recognized an unmet need regarding night-time hygiene.

Recently, we welcomed representatives from the Foundation who travelled to receive essential supplies from a collection of high-quality bedding. This included pillows and mattresses of various sizes to replace old ones that had deteriorated over time. This contribution helps support body posture and creates good sleep hygiene, which is a fundamental foundation for the sustainable emotional and neurological development of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

A Sustainable Resolve: Every Life Holds Equal Value

Seeing the spacious and completed new canteen building, witnessing the children enjoying their meals in a hygienic space, and seeing them rest fully with good bedding is the tangible outcome that the Chawla Charity Foundation has always aimed to achieve.

“Human value is equal, and social collaboration is what we always prioritise.”

Moving forward, the Chawla Charity Foundation will continue to support and stand alongside vulnerable groups in society to help build a compassionate community and provide opportunities for a good quality of life for everyone hereafter.
